My weight had been stalling a bit but this morning is back on the upward trend. I just weighed in at 158.6, this is the most I’ve weighed since January 2014 when the big downslide in weight began. This is huge, it has taken me nearly two years to climb back up to this point. My interim goal of 160 seems to be getting within reach. Let’s see how this trip goes and if I can maintain weight while on it.
I had given up health podcasts for the most part and then Shari posted this one the other day – Chris Kresser interviewing Dr. Pimentel about SIBO. It was a must listen. I almost got sucked in and started another Dr. Ruscio podcast then stopped, must be strong and not give in to the lure of the health podcast. Anyway, Pimentel actually acknowledged the Paleo diet which to me seems way better than his white food diet, discussed the merits of guar gum as part of treatment, the hope of a methane blocker which I believe is a statin drug, and a lot of good information on realistic expectations with regards to SIBO and relapses. I definitely fit one of the methane profiles he discussed with the high baseline which I attribute in part to the large amount of m.smithii I had in my colon and I hope has been crowded out with good bacteria at this point after all the probiotic/fermented foods I’ve been doing. Should know more when my tests come back.
Other good news – the SIBO is still at bay! Sleep is also holding steady. I met with Dr. Darley on Thursday and now get to slowly ramp up my time in bed until I get to 7.5-8 hours over the next month. Chances are I don’t need to go back since the sleep restriction seems to have re-booted my sleep system.
My neuropathy, however, sucks at the moment and I’m not sure what exactly brought this flare up on. I also developed some ezcema on my eyelid and they could be connected. So, time to clean up the diet a bit more and see if I can knock out the inflammation that is probably causing both of these things. Goodbye morning latte, I’m going to seriously miss you. It was fun while it lasted this past month but I’ve got to think coffee is part of this given I had this ezcema back when I drank coffee pre-SIBO and then it came back after I re-introduced coffee. I also had a bit of wine for a few days, alcohol is gone too. I can live without these drugs, let’s face it, that is what they are, if it means my leg will stop burning all day long and my eyelid won’t itch.
Off fishing starting tomorrow so I’ll be out of touch for a while.
