It only took about 3 months but I finally got my first set of results back from my UBiome test back in November. I’m doing a series of three tests each spaced 2 months apart to see if I’m making any progress with my gut repopulation. I really don’t know what to make of a lot of these results but a few I do know what to make of. I did a Genova test in August which had me in semi-bad shape, way low on the diversity index and in the red zone on butyrate and short chain fatty acids. After that test I started heavily in on probiotics and fermented foods in hopes that this would improve. Well, I have to say I think it worked!
My diversity score was in the 98th percentile now instead of in the lower 20% where it was on the Genova test. Now it could be my diversity greatly increased or people doing UBiome have really shitty diversity numbers since this is a comparison against their samples but still I’ll take it, diversity is good. The other good news is that my fatty acid biosynthesis in higher than normal which may mean that my SCFA and butyrate levels are getting back to normal instead of being red, I’ll have to redo a Genova test to know for sure.
My basic ratio of different bacterial families is pretty much on target with the samples overall that they have, I’m a tiny bit low on Firmicutes at 55%, about even on Bactericides at 37%, high on Actinobacteria (5.5%) and Euryarchaeota (3.25% and is my high m.smithii numbers) and low on Protebacteria and Verrucomicrobia whatever those are.
I did another test on 1/20 so we will see how long that one takes to come back and if there have been any changes. After that test I stopped the probiotics though have continued with fermented foods and will do another test at the end of March to see if that change in supplementation had any negative effect.
