We ate breakfast in Whitefish at the Buffalo Cafe which had great breakfast burritos and scrambles. We drove south to Kalispel then continued en-route to Missoula. Along the way we saw a bunch of teepees set up in a small town at the lower end of Flathead Lake and stopped by to see the pow wow. The PowWow Gods were not with us again, the dancing wouldn't start for another hour and a half and we needed to get to Missoula so we drove on.
A bit further we saw a sign for the National Bison Range which was only 13 miles out of our way so we opted to check it out. This was well worth the side-trip though we couldn't do the main drive through the range since it took 2 hours to complete. We instead did the two shorter drives and spent some time looking at the small herd of buffalo there. These are huge creatures (come back to see the pictures later.) We also saw some pronghorn antelope there too.
After the bison range we finally found a huckleberry place that advertised pie. We stopped and they were out of pie but did have a huckleberry turnover that was just right and very good. Bison were right next to us there and we learned that those bison were from the Allard stock that was used to restore the bison range and Yellowstone park.
We arrived at Missoula just in time to check in and wait for our slightly delayed flight. We boarded the Fokker and headed back to Seattle not really wanting the trip to come to an end.
