We decided to kayak part of Tomales Bay today and the tides were such that the lower portion may be unpassable so we opted for the middle portion from Heart's Desire Beach up towards Hog Island. Here we are at Heart's Desire assembling the boats and the finished products waiting to be launched:
We headed north from Heart's Desire and the first sight was Indian Beach, with a few Miwok bark huts and a salmon drying rack:
We had a good paddle up the shoreline, seeing multiple deer on the beach. Here is Catherine in front of Marshall and her old house:
The wind picked up a bit while paddling and we had to be back to meet a friend at 3 p.m. so we turned around a bit before Tomales Beach and rode the wind back to our put-in.
Now we had to try the funky racking system for the boats since we didn't want to assemble them each day in the park. We got the idea from Lyle at FoldingKayak.com where we bought our boats from but did some modifications to make it more stable for driving up to 40 mph in the windy conditions. Here's the boats on the van, and it worked!
We met Catherine's friend and her family on Shell Beach and visited a while before going into The Station House for dinner that evening.
