We had so much fun on our family trip to the Freestone Inn last year that we decided to do it again this year. Everyone left Seattle for five days of perfect weather and fun in Mazama. Like last year we rented the Steelhead Lodge at the Freestone for our trip.
Our first day was mostly taken up by the drive, getting supplies and getting the house sorted out. We did have time to go do the River Walk trail just up from the lodge.

Hiking
We did a few of the shorter hikes on our trip. Marshall, Christian, Jenny and Tim hiked to Goat Peak one morning, a nice 5-mile, 1400′ climb to the fire lookout. This is one of our favorite hikes in the area and we do it pretty much every time we come.

Another hike was to Cutthroat Lake, a 4 mile hike up to a a small lake nestled below Cutthroat Pass. Marshall, Catherine and Tim did this one afternoon in the heat.

Geocaching
Kristen introduced us to the game of geocaching on the trip when we went to look for a cache by the lodge and soon were tackling caches all around the Mazama area.

Running, Biking, Swimming, …
Catherine and Tim ran most days during the trip, including very long runs one day. We also rented bikes and took a few rides on the community trail to the Mazama store or beyond. The pool and beach also offered a good way to spend the hot afternoons and, of course, Tim and Cadence spent time fishing in the lake.

Family Time
Some of the best times on the trip were just hanging out and playing games, enjoying the lake or grabbing pizza at East 20 Pizza.
